Speed Queen was performed for one night only in a downtown launderette. At the time I was living with a coke addict, so I devised a piece which played on the drug related connotations of the word “speed”. We three women, queens of the launderette, danced in washing powder, sat on the open washing machines as if they were toilets, metamorphosing at one point into the three witches from Macbeth.

What is humorous in the video, is that the laundrette owners are standing behind the stage area. Their worried expressions become part of the performance.
